BYU Cougars  ||  3-0, 0-0  ||  Big 12 Conference

WHAT'S AT STAKE || With a win, the Cougars would move to 6-0 to start the season, tying the fourth-best start in program history. Currently at 5-0, the only teams in program history to start the season with a better record are: 2013-14 (9-0), 2005-06 (8-0), 2021-22 (8-0), and 2023-24 (6-0).

SWIFTIE'S SUCCESS || With the absence of Delaney Gibb against Montana, players would have to step up to fill the void of 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. That, Marya Hudgins did in a big way as she led BYU with a career-high 23 points on 46.7 percent shooting against the Lady Griz on Wednesday. The redshirt junior also turned in four rebounds, two assists, two steals and went 7-of-9 from the line, including the eventual game-winning point, to lift the Cougars to a 5-0 start to the season.

DEFENSIVE DOGS || BYU ranks 10th nationally and second in the Big 12 in blocks with 6.8 per game. Rohkohl (14th; 2.4) and Cannon (72nd; 1.4) each rank in the top 75 nationally in blocks, with Yussuf contributing 1.25 per game.

The Cougars sit 24th in the country and second in the Big 12 for steals per game and have seven players who average over a steal per game: Benally (2.8), Hamlin (2.6), Gibb (2.0), Rohkohl (2.0), Hudgins (1.8), Cannon (1.8) and Yussuf (1.0). The BYU defense also ranks 12th in the country in opponent field goal percentage, giving up only 30.7 percent shooting, good for 4th in the conference.

The Cougars were the first team to record 60 steals and 30 blocks through the first four games of a season since South Carolina in 2018-19, and the first Big 12 team since Texas in 2010-11.

CRASHING THE GLASS || BYU currently leads the Big 12 in rebounding with 47.8 boards per game, also good for 13th in the land. The Cougars have six players averaging 4.0 rebounds or more per game, with four recording 5.0 or more boards. Lara Rohkohl leads the way with 9.6. The others: Bola Yussuf (7.4), Brinley Cannon (6.0), Olivia Hamlin (5.4), Marya Hudgins (5.0) and Delaney Gibb (4.0). The Cougars also rank in the top 20 in defensive rebounds per game and 45th in offensive boards.

HAMLIN'S HOT START || Olivia Hamlin is the second-leading scorer for the Cougars through five games at 14.6 points per game and is shooting an efficient 43.3 percent from the field. Hamlin is even more lethal from inside the arc as she has gone 19-of-30 for a 63.3 percent clip from two. The Santa Clara, Utah native recorded a career-high eight rebounds against Montana. Hamlin’s 14.6 points per contest is the 13th most in the country among freshmen. She also ranks 13th among freshmen in steals per game with 2.6.
