Oblad, Rassmussen and Bonds sprint to BYU Top 10 marks

PROVO, Utah - Sami Oblad, Paje Rasmussen and Zoey Bonds clocked BYU top-10 marks to lead the Cougars on day two of the BYU Robison Invitational.

Oblad ran 23.35 to place second in the 200m and earn the program’s No. 3 all-time mark. The senior’s previous personal best in the outdoor event was 24.02, set at last year’s BYU Robison Invitational. She is slated to race the 400m in the invitational section at 11:50 a.m. MT on Saturday, May 3.

Rassmussen clocked 11.52 in the 100m to earn a personal best and secure a spot on the Cougars’ all-time top-10 list. The junior from Draper, Utah, finished second in the final.

Bonds won the 100m hurdles final with a personal-best time of 13.52, tying for No. 8 all-time at BYU. She also claimed the heptathlon title with a career-best score of 5299 points. The junior from Las Vegas, Nevada, added a long jump mark of 5.49m/18-0.25, a personal-best throw of 34.10m/111-10.75 in the javelin and a personal-best time of 2:28.41 in the 800m.

Reigning USTFCCCA National Track & Field Athlete of the Week, Lexy Halladay-Lowry, won the women’s mile in 4:34.18—the fastest time ever recorded in the state of Utah. Jenna Hutchins followed in second at 4:36.54 and Carmen Alder in third at 4:44.48.

BYU’s 4x400m relay team of Emily Ellis-Dalley, Rassmussen, Cate Phipps Louis and Oblad won the invitational section with a season-best time of 3:35.13. The same quartet also took first in the 4x100m relay, clocking 45.23.

Gretchen Hoekstre claimed victories in both the discus and shot put. The senior threw 54.83m/179-10.75 in the discus and 17.31m/56-9.5 in the shot put—the second-farthest mark of her career.

Freshman Cortnie Barker earned the fourth win of her collegiate career in the high jump with a clearance of 1.76m/5-9.25. Teammate Summer Young followed in second with a jump of 1.71m/5-7.25.

After winning the triple jump on Friday, Maddie Passmore added another victory in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.91m/19-4.75.

Other top performances from day two of the Robison Invitational included a win by Kylie Mantz in the 10,000m with a time of 36:26.68, a second-place finish by Lindsey Middleton in the 100m hurdles at 13.62, freshman Karissa Chamberlain’s runner-up showing in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:14.67, freshman Kat Beachler’s second-place shot put throw of 14.46m/47-5.25 and Ellis-Dalley’s third-place finish in the 200m at 23.80.
