TEMPE, Ariz. – BYU swim and dive finished in fourth with 730 points at the conclusion of the Big 12 West Championship Meet Saturday.
"After three consecutive weeks on the road, our team pushed through an intense stretch of competitions the last 2 days and faced some of the strongest programs in our conference," head coach Tamber McAllister said. "Despite the demanding travel schedule and high‑caliber opponents, the team showed up with resilience, determination, and drive to touch the wall first when they found themselves in a close race."

Swimming
Saturday’s events began with the 1650 freestyle, where Tanner Nelson took third at 15:23.79. He was followed by Easton Mousser, who took sixth at 15:31.12. Nelson also took second in the next event, the 200 individual medley, where he clocked a time of 1:46.56.
Max Kleinman placed fifth in the 100 freestyle at 44.16, and Mattia Reina earned a seventh-place finish in the 200 butterfly at 1:49.78. Darwin Anderson finished just behind in eighth at 1:53.26.
The 200 backstroke followed, where Bryce Broadhead finished at 1:47.31, placing him fifth in the event. Tyler Edlefsen also competed, taking seventh at 1:48.20.
The concluding event of the meet was the 400 freestyle relay, where the A team — composed of Payton Plumb, Kleinman, Joshua Reed and newcomer Lucca Ferreira — took fifth at 2:56.96. Andrew Eliason, Will Bonnett, Anderson and Peter Etzold competed as the B team, taking eighth at 3:00.41.
Diving
Freshman Ashton Sparks led BYU in the 3-meter event, placing seventh with a score of 282.55 — earning 12 points for the team. Martí Llop followed in eighth with a score of 268.60, contributing another 11 points for the program. Elijah Baker took 12th at 222.70 and added five points to the final score for the Cougars.

BYU will compete in its first home meet of the season as they welcome Air Force and CMU to Provo on Jan. 23–24, with competition beginning at 5 p.m. MST Friday.
