PROVO, Utah—BYU swim and dive completed its first day of the Air Force/CMU Double Dual at the Richards Building Pool Friday night.

BYU leads both Air Force and CMU heading into the final day of competition Saturday.
Swimming
The meet began with the 200 medley relay, where the A team — Tanner Edwards, Peter Etzold, Jake Aina and Max Kleinman — took first at 1:26.04. The B team, composed of Andrew Eliason, Will Bonnett, Jacob Ballard and Joshua Reed, followed just behind in second, finishing at 1:28.09. Tyler Edlefsen would then take first in the 400 individual medley at 3:55.42.
Up next was the 100 freestyle, where Kleinman took second (43.96), Lucca Ferreira took third (44.69) and Darwin Anderson took fourth (44.83). Following that event, Edwards took first in the 100 backstroke at 48.47, as well as Bryce Broadhead and Aina finishing fourth and fifth.
Tanner Nelson earned his first top finish of the night, hitting the wall at 1:56.76 in the 200 breaststroke. Reed and Ballard would then take second and fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Sophomore Easton Mousser broke the Richards Building Pool record in the 500 freestyle minutes later, finishing by a comfortable margin at 4:25.74. Freshman Mattia Reina also competed, taking third in the event at 4:36.91.
The 400 freestyle relay ended the day’s events, with the A team earning first at 2:55.27 and the B team following closely behind, hitting the wall at 2:59.92.
Diving
The sole diving event for the day was the 1-meter event, where Martí Llop took first, scoring 331.20 on a 16.60 degree of difficulty.
Freshman Ashton Sparks and Elijah Baker also competed, with Sparks earning fifth at 293.55 on a 17.30 degree of difficulty and Baker finishing 13th, scoring 222.70.
