The reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year picked up right where she left off last season as she averaged 16.3 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals through the first four games of the 2025-26 campaign. She also poured in a 21-point, six-rebound, six-assist and three-steal performance against San Jose State, which included five made 3-pointers. After leading the Cougars to a 4-0 start, Gibb was sidelined with a lower leg injury that forced her to miss the next eight games.
The Cougars had to rely on freshmen guards Sydney Benally and Olivia Hamlin during the absence of their star guard, but Gibb's impact was present, even from the bench.
“Being sidelined isn’t easy, but Delaney used the time to really study the game, sharpen her basketball IQ, and attack the little details that make a guard better, head coach Lee Cummard said. "Just as important, she became another coach on the bench—pouring into Olivia and Sydney, helping them read defenses, manage the offense, and stay aggressive as they carried a heavy load for the eight games Delaney missed. That growth, for all three of them, is already paying off for our team now that Delaney is back.”
Gibb returned to the BYU lineup in its first conference game against UCF on Dec. 20 with 12 points, two assists, two steals, a block and a rebound while on a minutes restriction. That game set the tone for nine-consecutive games of 10 points or more, including three 20-point outings.
In 10 games since her return, the Raymond, Alberta, Canada native is scoring 16.9 points per game while also tallying 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest. Gibb has led the Cougars in scoring on nine occasions, leading BYU to its most wins in a season since 2021-22.
Gibb has also been making it happen on the defensive side of the ball, notching at least one steal in 9-of-10 games since her return and multiple steals in five of the Cougars' last ten. The sophomore has led the team in steals in six games this season, resulting in a 5-1 record on the year.
Even when the shots aren't falling, the 5-foot-10 guard finds ways to make winning plays for the Cougars. In BYU's first win over rival Utah since 2021, Gibb scored just eight points, but turned in eight rebounds, three coming on the offensive glass, seven assists and four steals that all led directly to Cougar scores.
Gibb and the Cougars will next grace the historic hardwood of Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 4, for a date with the Kansas Jayhawks. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. MT tip with streaming available on ESPN+ and live play-by-play with Jason Shepherd on BYU Radio, byuradio.org and the BYU Radio App.
