PROVO, Utah — The BYU football team officially began preparations for the 2026 season with its first spring practice on Friday afternoon.
After the first 12-win season since 2001, BYU returns some of the top talent in the Big 12 Conference with Offensive Player of the Year LJ Martin at running back and the Offensive Freshman of the Year in Bear Bachmeier at the quarterback position.
All-American center Bruce Mitchell returns along the offensive line, joined by talented returners and newcomers on the rest of the offense.
On defense, All-American safety Faletau Satuala, star linebackers Isaiah Glasker and Siale Esera return, along with defensive lineman and team captain Keanu Tanuasa up front.
Several newcomers from the freshman ranks and transfer class hit the field for the first time with their new teammates, including top portal linebacker Cade Uluave from Cal, and receiver Kyler Kasper from Oregon.
The Cougars wll practice through April 3 when they wrap up spring practices before heading into their offseason workouts and summer strength and conditioning programs.
