PROVO, Utah — No. 9 seed BYU women’s tennis is set to take on No. 8 seed Utah in the opening round of the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 15, at 8 a.m. MDT (10 a.m. EDT) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The Cougars enter postseason play with an 18-7 overall record and a 7-6 mark in conference competition. BYU has demonstrated consistency across all environments, posting records of 8-2 at home, 8-4 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites.
Wednesday’s matchup marks the second meeting between the in-state opponents this season. Utah earned a 4-2 victory on March 7 in Salt Lake City after rallying from an early deficit. BYU secured the doubles point in that contest, but the Utes claimed four singles wins to seal the match. Utah holds a 17-12 advantage in the all-time series.
The Cougars will look to reverse the result as they begin their Big 12 tournament run. BYU has relied on strong doubles performances throughout the season, highlighted by the nationally ranked tandem of Grace Levelston and Kendall Kovick. Depth in the singles lineup from Levelston, Kovick, YuYun Chen, Sue Yan Tan, Sage Bergeson and Bella Lewis positions BYU as a formidable contender entering postseason play.
With a win, BYU will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 seed UCF on Thursday at 4 p.m. MDT (6 p.m. EDT).
