INDIANAPOLIS — Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan was selected by the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee to compete as the 4-seed individual in the Louisville Regional on May 11-13 at Louisville Golf Club.

“I’m super proud of MJ for qualifying for the NCAA Regional,” head coach Carrie Roberts said. "She has dedicated her time and talents to improving her skill sets to be one of the top competitors in the NCAA. Our goal is to always go as a team, but we’re super proud of MJ; her hard work and her dedication to being her very best.”

"MJ has put in consistent work the last couple of years to earn this opportunity," assistant coach Alex White said. "She’s played this season through quite a bit of adversity. I’m proud of her for keeping her composure and drive. It’s been fun to watch her journey and be there to experience the fire and intensity she brings to the each tournament. I can’t wait to see how far she takes it this year. The sky is the limit for MJ."

Barragan was one of six individuals selected to play in the Louisville Regional. There will be 12 teams and 60 golfers in the field competing at the Louisville GC. The top-3 teams at the regional include No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Auburn and No. 18 Iowa State.

The top-5 teams and the lowest scoring individual, not from an advancing team, from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California, on May 22-27. The five other regional sites will be located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Stanford, California, Tallahassee, Florida and Waco, Texas.

The junior became the first BYU women’s golfer to individually compete in an NCAA Regional since Allysha Mae Mateo played in the NCAA San Antonio Regional in 2023. Mateo finished 10th overall at 2-over par at TPC San Antonio.

Barragan is fresh off a 37th-place finish at the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship. The Mexico native enjoyed a stretch of four consecutive events finishing inside the top-15. In total, Barragan notched five top-25, four top-15, and three top-10 finishes to earn her first individual appearance in an NCAA Regional.

The junior's best finish was tying for eighth overall at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club.
