FORT WORTH, Texas — No. 32 BYU dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 22 TCU on Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, with the Cougars competing tightly across the lineup and leaving multiple matches unfinished as the dual was decided.
TCU took the early edge with the doubles point, earning wins on courts two and three over Sage Bergeson and YuYun Chen (6-1) and Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan (6-2). On court one, Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston were locked in a tight 4-3 battle before the match went unfinished.
In singles, BYU showed fight throughout the lineup. At No. 1, Levelston was in the middle of a competitive match, trailing 7-5 and tied 3-3 in the second set when play was halted. Kovick also battled on court two, taking the first set 7-5 and leading deep into the second before her match went unfinished.
Yan Tan pushed her opponent in a two-set match on court three, falling 6-3, 7-5 after a tight second set. Chen competed closely on court four, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision, while Bergeson fought on court five before falling 6-4, 6-3 in another competitive match.
On court six, Lewis was still in action when the match was clinched, leaving another opportunity unfinished for the Cougars.
BYU moves to 18-5 on the season and will look to build on its competitiveness as it returns home for the final stretch of Big 12 play.
