MEMPHIS, Tenn. — BYU women’s tennis earned a 6–1 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday afternoon at the Leftwich Tennis Center, securing the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches to open its weekend road trip.
The Cougars opened the match with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 doubles positions. Yuyun Chen and Kendall Kovick recorded a 6–2 victory at No. 2, followed by Gracie Levelston and Sue Yan Tan’s 6–2 win at the top spot to clinch the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished.
Singles play featured several extended rallies and high-quality points across the lineup, with multiple matches decided by key moments late in sets. Bella Lewis opened singles scoring for BYU at No. 5, sealing her 6–1, 6–4 win after a brief rally and a late defensive retrieval forced her opponent into an error. Sage Bergeson followed with a 6–4, 6–1 victory at No. 4.
At No. 2, Kendall Kovick posted a 6–3, 6–3 result to extend BYU’s lead. Sue Yan Tan clinched the Cougars’ fourth singles point at No. 3, finishing her 6–4, 7–5 win with an impressive backhand retrieval. Gracie Levelston secured the team victory at the top of the lineup, rallying for a 5–7, 6–4, 10–5 win in the match tiebreak, closing the match with an extended rally.
Arkansas State’s lone point came at No. 6, where Meghna Arun Kumar defeated Karina Mohamed in straight sets.
