Before BYU
- Trained with both North Carolina Gymnastics Academy and All-American Gymnastics in Orem
- Won the USAIGC Level 9 state and all-around titles in 1989 whle competing for North Carolina Gymnastics Academy
- Finished in the top 20 in all-around at USAIGC nationals in 1989 and 1990
- Competed in USGF regionals after in 1991 after coming to All-American Gymnastics
