BYU is 2-5 against Notre Dame. The last time the Cougars and the Irish met was last season, when Notre Dame defeated BYU 17-14 in South Bend.

BYU is 8-8 against FBS Independents. BYU’s last Independent opponent was Idaho, which the Cougars defeated 52-13 in Provo on Nov. 10, 2012.

Team Notes

BYU ranks No. 12 in the nation in rushing offense with 265.4 yards per game earned on the ground. 

BYU is also No. 13 in total offense with 503.7 yards per game. Notre Dame averages 405.3 yards for 67th nationally.

Balanced offensive attack. The Cougars have scored 37 touchdowns on offense so far this season. Sixteen of those TDs have come through the air and 21 on the ground.

Of the 158 opponent drives this season, the defense has got off the field in three plays or less 61 times, meaning that the defense has either forced a punt after three plays or has caused a turnover before the opposing team recorded a first down of any kind (38.6 percent).

Linebacker Kyle Van Noy is on finalist or semifinalist lists for four awards-- the Senior CLASS Award finalist list and the Butkus, Bednarik and Lombardi semifinalist lists.

Van Noy has 26 career sacks, which is the second most nationally among active FBS players. The senior needs eight more sacks this season to pass the career sack record at BYU (33). 

Cody Hoffman holds the BYU all-time records for career receiving yards with 3,382,receptions with 241 and touchdown receptions with 33. He needs one more 100-yard receiving game to pass Austin Collie and 305 more all-purpose yards to pass Curtis Brown and hold the BYU all-time records in those categories.

Quarterback Taysom Hill ranks No. 8 in the country with an average of 333.5 yards per game of total offense. Hill is currently No. 2 all-time at BYU among quarterbacks with 1,292 career rushing yards. The sophomore also ranks No. 27 in the FBS rushing yards with 956 on the year.
