PROVO, Utah - More than halfway through fall camp, the BYU football team continued to work hard Wednesday morning at the start of another two-a-day practice session.

The morning practice consisted of about 18 periods, each one focusing on position drills, conditioning and scrimmaging. During the team series at the end of practice the defense shined again, particularly with the linebackers continuing to make plays.

"One of the strengths of the team is not only who our outside linebackers are but the depth we have there," head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "If not the strength it's one of the strengths."

Continually putting pressure on quarterback Jake Heaps, the defense forced a three-and-out on the first series. During another series quarterbacked by Riley Nelson, linebackers Jameson Frazier and Austen Jorgensen combined for a sack. On the next snap linebacker Ezekiel Ansah chased Nelson down for another sack to force a punt.

"Today the offense needed to respond better; my guess is they will," Mendenhall said of the slow start for the offense.

Heaps finally got the offense going on the last series with help from the backfield. Running back Joshua Quezada picked up 10 yards, followed by runs of three yards from JJ Di Luigi and five yards from Bryan Kariya. On a broken play, Heaps found an open Dallin Cutler for a 17-yard gain and a first down. Quezada was able to run it into the end zone from 20 yards out for a touchdown.
