BYU Competes at Both Texas Relays and UVU Invite

AUSTIN, Texas - The BYU men’s track and field team split this weekend, with some participating in the Texas Relays in Austin and some competing in the UVU Invitational in Orem, Utah.

BYU pulled in four top-five finishes in Texas, including a first place finish by the 4x400m team of Derek McAllister, Rhyan Atrice, Chris Carter and Cade Lindahl. The team finished with a time of 3:08.13.

Second team All-American Victor Weirich finished second in the pole vault tying his indoor season record of 5.50m (18’ 0.50”).

Carter also finished second in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 50.75, and Keith Keller finished third in the javelin section B, throwing 63.26m (207’ 06”).

At the UVU Invitational, BYU secured three first-place finishes and 14 top-ten finishes.

Sophomore James Tracey and freshman Jeffrey Bastian finished one-two in the 3000m steeplechase, with times of 9:24.96 and 9:39.41 respectively.

Also on the track, freshman Hyrum Iverson finished fifth in both the 110m hurdles (15.58) and the 400m hurdles (56.24)

Sophomore Tyler Brown finished first in the pole vault, clearing 4.80m (15’ 9.00”) and Colby Barber took second in the shot put with a distance of 16.33m (53’ 07.00”). 

BYU finished four in the top eight in the discus, with Winston Wilkinson finishing first throwing 48.27m (158’ 04.50”), Clinton Prestwich taking fifth with 46.66 (153’ 01.00”), Seth Weiler coming in sixth throwing 46.12 (151’ 03.75”) and Aaron Clark finishing seventh with a distance of 46.09 (151’ 02.50”).

Rounding off the field events, junior Konrad Rywelski came in second in the triple jump, jumping 13.89m (45’  06.75”), and freshman Daniel Elgaaen finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.55m (21’ 05.75”).

Next week, the Cougars will host their first outdoor home meet of the season against Pac-12 powerhouse USC and Boise State on Saturday, April 7.
