PROVO, Utah – On the opening day of the Cherry & Silver Invitational, No. 13 BYU earned six top-five finishes, including a first-place finish by Braydon Bringhurst in the pole vault.
"Pole vault was definitely the brightest spot for us," head coach Mark Robison said. "It's always hard to compete the same day you travel, but I thought we did pretty well today."
Bringhurst's first-place vault measured 16-08.75. He was joined in the top-five by fellow Cougar Victor Weirich, who suffered a sprained ankle earlier this season. Weirich took fifth place with a mark of 16-02.75.
Three Cougar runners finished in the top-five in their respective events. In the 200-meter dash, Jason Hinds took third place with a time of 21.74. Cade Lindahl finished in fourth place in the 600-meter run at 1:21.19 and, with a time of 52.67, freshman Korey Smith took second in the 400-meter hurdles.
Dakoda John tied for third in the men's high jump, clearing a height of 6-08.25.
In the men's weight throw, freshman Jacob Foutz finished eighth with a mark of 52-10.25.
