Hocker in first, Cougars tied for second

WAHIAWA, Hawai'i — With Brooklyn Anderson Hocker's outright first place finish at four-under-par, the BYU women's golf team sits in second place after the first day of play at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Tuesday. 

"Brookyln kept us in the tournament today, " BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "It's nice to be just one off the lead on an off day. We are looking forward to seeing a better overall team effort tomorrow.

BYU is one-stroke behind the University of Mississippi, who leads all teams at six-over-par. As a team, the Cougars shot seven-over-par (+7) through 18 holes. 

Hocker leads all competitors by at least two strokes.  Her score of 68 (-4) is her lowest career round at BYU. Hocker birdied a total of five holes on the day.

Hawai'i native Rose Huang is tied for eighth place. Huang birdied and bogeyed three holes on the day, finishing at even par. Junior Alexandra White sits in 35th place shooting a five-over-par 77 through the first day of play, while teammate Kendra Dalton is in 43rd at six-over-par. Senior Lea Garner shot seven-over-par on the day.

Competing individually, Lauren Atkinson shot a two-over-par 74 and is tied for 13th. Carly Oldroyd is tied for 25th place at four-over-par.

Teams will tee off tomorrow at 8 a.m. HST (12 p.m. MT) in a shotgun start. Live stats can be found on the BYU women's golf schedule page.
