KANSAS CITY, Mo. – BYU women's soccer captain Jamie Shepherd and junior defender Laveni Vaka were named to the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list Thursday by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club.
Since 1988, the MAC Hermann Trophy has been awarded annually to the top collegiate men and women’s soccer players in the nation.
In 2021, Shepherd started in all 24 matches and accumulated the most minutes played by any athlete on the team the entire season (2,091). The junior midfielder tallied one goal, three assists and 36 shots. Shepherd was also named to the 2021 All-WCC First Team and the NCAA All-West Region First Team.
Vaka also started in all 24 games during the 2021 season. During her minutes on the field, center defender Vaka tallied two assists and seven shots. As a crucial part of the back line, she helped the Cougars retain seven shutouts last season. Along with Shepherd, Vaka was also named to the NCAA All-West Region First Team.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in collegiate soccer.
The 2022 winner will be announced on Jan. 6, 2023 at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
