PROVO -- BYU junior guard Lee Cummard received All-America honorable mention Monday from The Associated Press.

"Lee is an outstanding player who is very deserving of this recognition," BYU coach Dave Rose said. "He was extremely consistent all year and helped lead us to a conference championship and a very successful season. It's a nice honor for him."

A 6-foot-7 native of Mesa, Ariz., Cummard ranked first or second on the team in every statistical category while helping BYU achieve the second-most wins in program history with a 27-8 record. Cummard led the Cougars in scoring (15.8), field-goal percentage (.569), three-point percentage (.472) and blocked shots (1.0) and ranked second on the team in rebounds (6.3), assists (3.5), steals (0.9) and free-throw percentage (.857).

Cummard previously earned all-district recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers Association and was named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year after leading BYU to its second-consecutive outright MWC regular-season title with a league-record 14-2 resume. He helped BYU earn its second-straight NCAA Tournament invitation and fourth in the last six years while also achieving placement in the Top 25 polls in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1981 and 1982.

Cummard joins Keena Young (2007), Rafael Araujo (2004) and Mekeli Wesley (2001) as the most recent Cougars to receive AP All-America honorable mention recognition. Araujo also received Basketball Times All-America Second Team honors in 2004, and current BYU junior forward/center Trent Plaisted was a Scout.com Freshman All-America Second Team member in 2006.
