KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – The Cougars are tied for ninth after shooting 6-over in the first round of the Nanea Invitational on Monday.

Leading the Cougars, sophomore Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan is tied for 21st place after she shot even-par on the par 73 course. On the eighth hole, Barragan made a hole-in-one carding the only eagle out of the entire field.

"I've never made a hole in one before, and it's pretty typical for a golfer to claim at least one in their life, so this was special," Barragan said. "I decided to hit my 7 iron and I saw the ball rolling to the hole. I'm a naturally excited person, so this was huge for me. I wanted to immediately call my parents and let them know that I achieved my lifetime goal."

No. 1 Stanford shot 13-under 279 and claims the top spot after round one. No. 8 Arizona State is just behind them at 11-under 281, and San Jose State is in third place after they carded a 6-under round 286.

Alexa Udom is tied for 26th after she shot 1-over 74 in round one. Notably, Udom made six birdies, which is the fourth-most out of any player.

Junior Sunbin Seo is tied for 34th after tallying a 2-over 75. Lily McCauley sits tied for 41st with a 3-over-par 76.

Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul is in 55th place after carding an 8-over 81.

The Cougars tee off for day two on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. MST. Live scoring can be followed on Scoreboard.
