SAN DIEGO – The Cougars (293-290-296–879) collectively shot 15-over to finish in fifth place at the San Diego State Classic at the Heights Golf Club on Tuesday.
Mexico native Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan notched her second top five finish of the season with her 5-under 211. Barragan performed at the top of the field on the par 5s, recording an average of 4.36 per par 5 throughout the competition. Additionally, Barragan was one of two players to card an eagle at the event.
No. 1 Stanford (278-270-285–833) stayed at the top of the leaderboard with their 31-under par. UNLV (283-290-292–865) claimed second place and Georgia (290-289-297–876) finished in third. Oregon State finished one stroke ahead of the Cougars to take fourth place.
Alexa Udom (77-72-70–219) finished tied for 17th after going 3-over par, while only carding one bogey in her final round of play. Lily McCauley notched rounds of 72-75-75–222 to stand tied for 21st.
Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul (76-74-77–227) finished tied for 34th and sophomore Whitney Banz (77-79-79–235) completed the competition in 53rd place.
BYU will return to the Golden State from Feb. 24-25 for the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento. Follow live scoring on Scoreboard.
