BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — BYU Women’s golf (300-305–605) currently holds a tie for 11th after carding a 37-over par in the opening two rounds at the Route 66 Invitational Honoring Dale McNamara at Cedar Ridge Country Club.
“It was a rough finish today,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “Hopefully we can improve upon that tomorrow. If we can keep our composure and make the most out of a difficult hole, we will be okay.”
Arkansas (278-280–558) was the only team to break par through 36 holes with a 10-under par to lead the field. The Razorbacks’ 33 birdies lead all teams in that category. Oklahoma (292-276–568) scored an even-par on the day to finish 10 strokes behind Arkansas for second. The Sooners and Razorbacks each have two players inside the Top 5. Host Tulsa (284-295–579) recorded an 11-over-par scorecard to be in third followed by fourth place Wisconsin’s (291-290–581) 13-over par and fifth place Minnesota’s (293-293–586) 18-over par.
Competing individually, Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul (72-72–144) made seven birdies, including five in round one, to reach the top 15 with a tie for 13th.
Lily McCauley sits in a tie for 40th at 8-over after shooting rounds of 77 and 73.
Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan (78-74–152) completed her first two rounds tied for 48th at 10-over. After no birdies in the opening 18 holes, she bounced back in the next round with two, one on hole 10 and and another on the 13th.
Ava Schroeder (74-79–153) posted an 11-over par to sit at a tie for 56th on the day.
Lilly DeNunzio (76-79–155) and Whitney Banz (73-82–155) shared a spot in 63rd through the opening 36 holes with 13-over par.
