LIHUE, Hawaii — BYU women’s golf (292-293–585) ended day two in fifth at 9-over par after a 5-over-par second round in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at The Ocean Course at Hokuala on Tuesday.
“The girls showed lots of composure and toughness today to move up,” said head coach Carrie Roberts.
Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan (70-73–143) and Ava Schroeder (71-72–143) finished the day in tied for 10th at 1-under par. Barragan posted a 1-over par while Schroeder rose up seven spots with her even-par day to be inside the top 10. The Mexico native Barragan through 36 holes shares the lead with the field in par-3 scoring average at 2.88.
“The wind has been super tricky to gauge, but both MJ and Ava have maintained ball control,” said Roberts.
Sophomore Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul (76-72–148) matched Schroeder with the best score of the day for BYU with her even-par round. This put Aramkul tied for 39th and 31 spots higher than Monday.
Lily McCauley (75-76–151) is tied for 58th at 7-over par after carding a 4-over-par day. Whitney Banz (78-77–155) had a 5-over-par second round and currently sits at 11-over par and tied for 89th.
