LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — BYU receiver and punt returner Parker Kingston was today named to the weekly Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for his performance in the Cougars’ 38-24 win over West Virginia on Friday.
The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is awarded annually by the Louisville Sports Commission to the most versatile player in college football.
Early in the first quarter of the West Virginia game, Kingston scored on a one-yard fly sweep for the first rushing touchdown of his career. In doing so, he became the first BYU player in the modern era to score a touchdown in four different ways—receiving, rushing, passing and on a punt return.
Kingston also had four receptions for 111 yards, including a screen pass he took 54 yards for a touchdown to increase BYU’s lead over WVU to 14-0 late in the second quarter. He also became the first Cougar to have a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game since Puka Nacua versus Arkansas in 2022. To further showcase his versatility, Kingston also had one punt return for nine yards.
Kingston, a 5-11, 185-pound junior from Layton, Utah, was named a preseason All-American as a punt returner by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. In July he was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List for a second consecutive season.
Fan voting to help determine the finalists of the 2025 Paul Hornung Award is currently open. Cougar fans can vote for Kingston now through Nov. 2. A national selection committee comprised of 18 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award winner, with the fan vote comprising the 19th vote.
The Hornung Award is named in memory of the late football legend and Louisville, Kentucky, native Paul Hornung and was created to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. The winner of the 2026 Award will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner in Louisville in March 2026.
Hornung won the 1956 Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame and was the No. 1 pick in the 1957 NFL Draft. He played every position in the backfield during his career with the Irish, where he also punted, kicked, returned kicks, and played defensive back. While in the NFL, Hornung was a multi-threat offensive back and prolific kicker. He was a member of four NFL championship teams as an all-pro halfback for the Green Bay Packers.
Several BYU players have been named to the Paul Hornung Award candidate list in the past, including Kingston (2024), Tyler Allgeier (2021), Lopini Katoa (2020), Austin Kafentzis (2018) and JD Falslev (2013).
This week BYU football will travel to Tucson, Arizona, to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 11. The game in Arizona Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m. MST (6 p.m. MDT) and will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Mike Couzens, Kirk Morrison and Dawn Davenport on the call.
