GREENSBORO, N.C. — BYU women’s swim remains in seventh place following day two of the Wolfpack Elite Invite.

Prelims
After a solid day one, Lucy Warnick led the Cougars with a 10th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:14.60. Abril Arias, Brinley Knoll and Maddie Johnson competed in the event as well, with all four earning times quick enough for finals later in the competition.

The 500 freestyle was highlighted by five BYU swimmers — Victoria Schreiber, Kara Martinson, Melissa Turlea, Cher Patrick and Haylee Tiffany — who all finished the event right around the five-minute mark. Patrick earned her collegiate personal best in the event at 4:57.85, nearly three seconds quicker than her previous performance.

Tatum Cooley highlighted the prelims for BYU with her performance in the 50 freestyle, the concluding preliminary event. She finished in 13th place with a time of 22.61, the second-fastest 50 freestyle time in BYU women’s history. Prior to this race, Cooley did not hold any place in the 50 freestyle top 10, showing significant improvement in the event and etching her into program history.

Finals
Finals began with the 400 medley relay, where the BYU A team finished in 12th with a time of 3:41.83. The C team also finished the event, clocking a time of 3:53.26.

Finals for individual events began with the 100 backstroke, where Emma Marusakova and Katya Hulse competed. Marusakova finished the event at 54.96 and Hulse at 55.76.

Warnick competed in the 200 breaststroke finals, improving off her prelim time and finishing at 2:13.77.

Cooley returned for the 50 freestyle and finished in 14th with a time of 22.78, just over her historic preliminary time.

The concluding event of the meet was the 800 freestyle relay, where the BYU A team took fourth at 7:19.15. The B team also competed, earning a time of 7:38.53 and placing in eighth.

BYU remains in seventh place at the conclusion of day two with 392 total points.
