LAS VEGAS — BYU women’s swim and dive fell short Friday night against the UNLV Rebels in Las Vegas.

The Cougars were outscored 168.5-131.5 despite earning six new top-10 all-time finishes.

Swimming

BYU began individual events with historic performances in the 1000 freestyle from Cher Patrick, Victoria Schreiber and Melissa Turlea. All three finished the race with top-10 finishes in program history. Patrick, a freshman, finished in second place at 10:08.19, the second-fastest time in BYU history. Schreiber hit the wall at 10:10.67, earning her the sixth-fastest time in program history, and Turlea finished at 10:11.10, moving her into seventh all-time.

The next individual race, the 200 freestyle, also ended in historic fashion, with sophomore Haylee Tiffany earning the fastest time in BYU history at 1:47.25. The Pleasant Grove, Utah, native originally sat in fifth all-time in the 200 freestyle but moved into first with her performance Friday night.

Lucy Warnick would later take first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.26, with freshman Brinley Knoll finishing just behind at 1:03.08, earning her second.

BYU’s historic night didn’t end there, with top-10 performances occurring in both the 200 and 100 butterfly. Lucy Marek completed the 200 butterfly at 2:01.60, the sixth-fastest time in program history, and Sarah Eliason tied for first in the 100 butterfly at 53.96, also moving her into sixth place all-time in that event.

The Cougars finished the swimming portion of the meet in the 200 freestyle relay, with Tatum Cooley, Eliason, Taylor Bennett and Lily Flint of the A team finishing in first place at 1:31.87.

Diving
Freshman Brooklyn Goeckeritz got the Cougs on the board early with a first-place finish in the 3-meter event. She ended with a score of 296.25, with Aubryn Ordyna finishing just behind in third place at 265.58. Sophia DeBergh and Betty Martin also competed for the Cougars, finishing in fifth and sixth place.

Goeckeritz would later place second in the 1-meter event with a score of 264.90. Ordyna, DeBergh and Martin would all place in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

BYU men’s and women’s swim teams will travel to North Carolina for the Wolfpack Elite Invite on Nov. 20-22, while the dive teams cwill ompete in the USC Invitational in Los Angeles on the same dates.
