GUADALAJARA, Mexico — BYU women’s golf concluded Friday in 11th place after carding a 19-over par through 27 holes of the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club. 

“I think the scores are higher in general which shows the difficulty of the golf course,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “We weren't at our best, but tomorrow is a new day.”

No team ended Friday below par. Oklahoma State found themselves leading the charge at 1-over par. Tulsa, Virginia and Florida State finished the day in a three-way tie for second at 6-over par. The Golden Hurricane were the only school to post a round-one score below par which was 4-under par. Houston slotted in the fifth spot to round out the top-5 leaders at 7-over par halfway through the second round. 

Mexico native Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan was the best-performing Cougar midway through round two by being tied for 13th at 1-over par. Barragan bounced back from a double-bogey on hole one and made four birdies on the day. 

Lily McCauley finished her 27 holes tied for 30th after a 5-over-par day. 

Sophomores Ava Schroeder and Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul recorded 7-over par and 9-over par, respectively. Schroeder capped off the day with a share of 41st, and Aramkul ended Friday tied for 48th.

Whitney Banz posted a 10-over par on her scorecard to put herself tied for 53rd. Banz had a hot stretch on holes 8-10 and made three consecutive birdies. 

The event will finish up the rest of round two then tee off round three Saturday at 8 a.m. on Babygrande Golf live stream. The live leaderboard will be updating on Scoreboard with more updates posting on Instagram and X.
