TUCSON, Ariz. — BYU women’s golf (300-289–589) ended its 36-hole day in third at 13-over par at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club Monday. 

“The team committed to their plans and executed what they needed to score well on a tough course,” said head coach Carrie Roberts.

Stanford (288-285–573), the no. 1 team on Scoreboard team rankings, held down the top spot at 5-under par for the day. The Cardinal were the only school to finish Monday under par. Baylor (295-290–585) carded a 9-over par Monday for second, and host Arizona (295-292–587) recorded an 11-over par for third. Behind BYU are Texas Tech (301-289–590) and Colorado (308-282–590) sharing the fifth spot to round out the top-5. 

Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan (73-69–142) finished Monday as the top-performing Cougar, being tied for fifth at 2-under par. The Mexico native has made seven birdies and an eagle through 36 holes. Barragan will contend for her fifth top-5 finish of her career when play resumes Tuesday. 

Whitney Banz (75-74–149) and Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul (77-72–149) wrapped up their play sharing a spot in 21st at 5-over par. 

Lily McCauley (79-75–154) ended her two rounds tied for 44th at 10-over par.

Ava Schroeder (75-81–156) finished her day tied for 53rd at 12-over par.
