TUCSON, Ariz. — BYU women’s golf (300-289-301–890) recorded a 13-over-par final day for a 26-over-par, fifth-place finish at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club on Tuesday.

"It was a solid finish in a really good field," said head coach Carrie Roberts. "We felt like we backed up our performance in Mexico by staying present and controlling what’s within our control."

In two events in the spring season, the Cougars have finished fifth in both outings. The other fifth-place finish for BYU came when it posted a 24-over par at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club in January.

Stanford (288-283-277–848) had an event-best 11-under-par final round on its way to a 16-under-par win in Tucson. The Cardinal had the most birdies and fewest bogeys in the field. Baylor (295-290-298–883) finished second, with Arizona (295-292-297–884) taking third, Texas Tech (301-297-290–888) finishing fourth and BYU rounding out the top five.

Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan (73-68-74–215) tied for eighth, notching back-to-back top-10 placements to start 2026. The junior now has nine career top-10 finishes. With a 2-over-par final round, Barragan posted a 1-under par for the event.

“I feel like I played pretty solid in Tucson,” Barragan said. “Finishing top-10 is good and all, but of course I want to win, so I have to practice and keep going.”

Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul’s (77-72-71–220) 1-under-par round three brought her to a tie for 13th finish at 4-over par, which was enough to notch her first top-15 finish of 2025-26. The Thailand native also tied for 7th as an individual at the Route 66 Invitational last October.

Whitney Banz (75-74-77–226) finished with a share of 27th place at 10-over par. Lily McCauley (79-75-79–233) carded a 17-over par and placed in a tie for 50th. Ava Schroeder (75-81-82–238) ended tied for 61st at 22-over par.

"We feel like if we take care of the things within our control we can perform at a higher level moving forward," Roberts said.

The Cougars look towards March 2-3 for the Lady Luck Invitational hosted by UNLV at the Las Vegas Country Club.
