MARICOPA, Ariz. — BYU women’s golf (285-291–576) carded an even-par Monday in the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
The Cougars got off to a strong start as demonstrated by their 3-under-par round one, the second-best score in the round. After each player’s first nine holes, 14 birdies were made as a team.
BYU concluded Monday trailing only Iowa State (277-286–563). The Cyclones posted a 13-under-par day, making it a 13-stroke deficit for the second-place Cougars. New Mexico State (287-292–579) positioned itself in third with one round to play at 3-over par. Sacramento State (292-288–580) and UNLV (296-286–582) finished the day at 4-over par and 6-over par, respectively, for the fourth and fifth spots of the top-5.
Whitney Banz (70-75–145) and Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan (72-73–145) recorded a 1-over par to be tied for 16th. In round two, Barragan made a highlight by making an eagle on hole 16, a par-5.
Lily McCauley (76-70–146) and Ava Schroeder (67-79–146) each concluded Monday with a share of 22nd at 2-over par. Schroeder’s 5-under-par first round was the second lowest score in the field for that round.
Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul (81-73–154) finished her first 36 holes at 10-over par and tied for 78th.
While competing as an individual, Berlin Long (74-73–147) carded a 3-over par through two rounds of play to be tied for 29th.
