Five women’s golfers honored as CSC Academic All-District selections

Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul, Whitney Banz, Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan, Lily McCauley and Ava Schroeder were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators in the women’s at-large category on Tuesday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul, Whitney Banz, Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan, Lily McCauley and Ava Schroeder were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators in the women’s at-large category on Tuesday.

Each player was recognized for demonstrating excellence both on the course and in the classroom.

In order to qualify, a student-athlete must hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher, be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically, and have competed in 70 percent of the team’s tournaments or the conference championship. 

Aramkul holds a 3.75 as a pre-business major. The sophomore played in nine of 11 team events to a tune of a 76.15 scoring average this season. Aramkul’s best showing came at the Route 66 Invitational when she tied for seventh at 1-over par while competing as an individual. 

Banz’s 3.96 GPA as an exercise and wellness major is the highest of the Cougar honorees. The junior appeared in every tournament and accumulated two top-20 finishes. Banz recently became the fifth women golfer to ever qualify for the Utah Men’s State Amateur. 

Barragan has a 3.51 as a marketing major. In 10 team events, the Mexico native placed in the top-10 three times before capping off her junior season with an T11 finish in the NCAA Louisville Regional. 

McCauley graduated with a 3.56 in communication studies. The senior ended her season strong with back-to-back top-15 finishes, including a share of 12th at the Big 12 Championship. McCauley participated in every event for the Cougars.

Hailing out of Twin Falls, Idaho, Schroeder concluded her sophomore campaign with a 3.62 in exercise and wellness. Schroeder highlighted her season by securing eighth place at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
