- Father played first base at Utah Valley before transferring to the BYU baseball team from 1989-90 and was captain and two-time All-Western Athletic Conference; played for Montreal Expo organization (13th round of the 1990 MLB Draft).
- Uncle Judd Wilstead played for the Milwaukee Brewers organization
- Brother Kody signed football letter of intent with BYU as a quarterback
- Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Bacolod, Philippines
- Majoring in economics

- Prepped at Pineview High School where he was coached by his father
- Honorable mention Rawlings All-America for the West region
- Second team All-State by the Deseret News
- Batted .527 with seven home runs, 13 doubles, four triples and 44 RBI during his senior season in which he was named team MVP
- Three-time first team All-Region 9 in both baseball and football and once in basketball
- Lettered three years in baseball and football and once in basketball
- First team All-State by Salt Lake Tribune and second team All-State by Deseret News as a tight end in football
- U.S. Army Scholar Athlete for Washington County School District
- MVP of the Gates field World Series, getting walk off single vs. future BYU teammate Hayden Nielsen.
- Recruited by UNLV, Cal-Berkeley, Kentucky, UC Davis, Iowa, Wichita State, Utah Valley, SLCC and College of Southern Nevada
