Before BYU
- Two-time 4A State MVP at Timpview High School
- Averaged 14.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks for the Thunderbirds as a senior
- Also two-time Deseret News 4A MVP
- Finished his career at Timpview with nearly 300 blocks, second all-time in the Utah High School record book to former BYU and NBA center Shawn Bradley
- Led Timpview to the Region 6 title -- the toughest league in 4A -- in 2004
- Region 6 MVP came up big in the final two games to clinch the league title, scoring 27 points against cross-town rival Provo and tossing in 24 in the region-clinching win at Payson
- As a junior, the local standout averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for a balanced Thunderbird team that won the state title
- Named the 4A State Tournament MVP.
