- Chose BYU for its combination of athletic excellence and atmonsphere where his values are both respected and encouraged
- Also recruited by Arizona, Georgetown, Minnesota and Oklahoma
Before BYU
- Three-time Utah all-state in track and cross country
- Set school records in sprint medley relay, 1600m and 3200m
- Member of state championship sprint medley relay team
- Second team all-west
- High school athlete of the year and class valedictorian
- Recipient of Thomas S. Monson Presidential Scholarship
- Academic all-state athlete
- Started sunning in middle school as a way to train for basketball season in the offseason
- High school coach is Tawney Bybee
