BYU men's swim and dive announces 2023 signing class

PROVO, Utah — BYU swim coach Shari Skabelund and dive coach Tyce Routson have announced their 2023 recruiting class, signing ten new athletes set to join the program in 2023. 

For the men, the 2023 class includes swimmers Carson Hamblin, Joshua Reed, Joseph Pyon, and Bryce Broadhead, along with diver Russell Haws.

"We are really looking forward to this recruiting class," said Skabelund. "They bring energy and passion and we have loved recruiting them. They are solid individuals who will be great additions to our roster."

Carson Hamblin | Swimmer | 6-0 | Dobson High School | Mesa, Arizona

  • 2nd in the 500 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 butterfly at state (2020)
  • 3rd in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle at state (2021)
  • 3rd in the 100 butterfly

Joshua Reed | Swimmer | 6-1 | Warners Bay High School | Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia

  • Three-time National Age finalist (2019, 2021-2022)
  • Six-time state medalist (2017-2022)
  • Swam at the Australian Olympic Trials (2021)

Joseph Pyon | Swimmer | 6-0 | PK Yonge Developmental Research School | Gainesville, Florida

  • Four-time state qualifier
  • Florida LSC record holder
  • All-First Area swimmer
  • Winter Junior national qualifier
  • Four-time school record-holder

Bryce Broadhead | Swimmer | 6-4 | Lehi High School | Lehi, Utah
