- Served as a missionary in the Salt Lake City Mission
Before BYU
- Prepped at Newtown High School
- Helped Newtown to a 10-1 record as a senior as well as a a conference championship and a trip to the quarterfinals of the state championship
- Served as a team captain
- First-Team All-State by the Newhaven Register and USA Today
- Two-time all-conference selection
- Went 10-2 his junior season and 12-1 as a sophomore, making it to the state semifinals both years
- Coached by Steven George
- Competed in the throwing events on the track and field team
- Also recruited by UConn, UMass, Boston College and Wake Forest
