- Prepped at West High School where he was a three-year starter
- Posted 50 total tackles, six sacks, three interceptions including two pick-sixes, seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles
- Second-team all-state selection and three-time region champ winner with West
- Played basketball as a freshman and also competed in track and field in high school
- Also recruited by Weber State, Utah State, Colorado, Arizona State and Hawaii
