- Came to BYU as a freshman in 1971 under head coach Tommy Hudspeth and was a member of the varsity team from 1972-75 under head coach LaVell Edwards
- Played fullback as a compact runner who accelerates extremely fast
- Earned four letters in three sports at Kahuku High School in Hawai'i
- Coached by former BYU player Famika Anae
- Younger brother of Arizona State All-American end Junior Ah You
- Charley and his wife Joyce were married in November of 1971
- From Laie, Hawai'i, Charley was born in March 1952
