1990 BYU Hall of Fame
Gentle giant Nick "The Bear" Eyre was BYU football's first consensus All-America lineman. The offensive tackle from Las Vegas finished third in the Outland Trophy voting and was selected to the Kodak-Coaches and the Football Writers Association All-America teams in 1980.
He was a four-year letterman, a three-year starter for 24-consecutive games, a two-time All-WAC performer and a team captain.
Because of these accomplishments, Nick was chosen to play in the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. He was also selected to the BYU All-Decade Team, the WAC 25-Year Anniversary squad and Street and Smith's 50-Year All-Rockies team.
Nick helped the Cougars to four WAC titles, three Holiday Bowl appearances and a 41-8 record.
He played four years of professional football in the NFL with the Houston Oilers and the U.S. Football League with the Arizona Wranglers. That career was cut short when he discovered he had cancer, which is now in remission.
At the time of his induction, Nick resided in Orem, Utah, with his wife, Diane, and worked as a counselor for troubled youth at Provo Canyon School. He passed away on November 15, 2018.
