- Parents are Steven and Lisa
- Grandfather Ed Pinegar played at BYU in the 1950's and father Steven played at Utah State in the late 1970's
- Has six sisters and two brothers
- Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Canada Toronto East mission from 2005-07
- Enjoys wakeboarding, driving, playing the piano and movies
- Also recruited by Utah State.
Before BYU
TIMPVIEW HIGH SCHOOL:
- McDonald's High School All-America nominee
- Helped his team win the region championship as a senior before falling in the state quarterfinals
- Averaged 16 points, three assists and two steals per game
- Named 4A first-team all-state as a junior and senior
- Also earned Utah Valley MVP and Valley Player of the Year as a junior
- Helped his team win the state 4A title posting 13.8 points, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior
- Was the only freshman on the varsity team in 2001-02
- Coached by Perry Wildeboer
- Also active in a capella club
- Played for the Utah Heat AAU club under head coach Chris Jones.
