- Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Boston, Massachusetts speaking Portuguese
- Also surfs, skateboards, snowboards and dirtbikes
- Was in the film, Soul Surfer, along with his sisters
- Sister, Kallee, wo the Pipe Pro women's surf contest
- Brother, Kaulin helped Kahuku HS win the state title in 2006
Before BYU
- Prepped at Mission Viejo High School
- Was a two-time South Coast League champion
- Also competed in track and field and basketball
- Recruited by UC Berkeley, Rice, San Diego State and Fresno State
