- Burgess averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 3 assists as a senior at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, Calif., to earn All-California First Team honors
- McDonald's All-America nominee
- All-California Third Team as a junior when he averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 3 assists
- First-team All-Orange County as a senior and All-CIF First Team as a junior and senior
- All-CIF Second Team as a sophomore, when he averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots
- Four-year letterwinner, Burgess is one of just three players to ever play on the varsity team as a freshman at Woodbridge when he averaged 5 points, 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot on his way to being named the team's Most Improved Player and an honorable mention All-City (Irvine) Team selection
- Team MVP his final three seasons and was the City and Sea View League MVP as both a junior and senior
- Only high school player to compete on the 19-Under USA Basketball World Championships Team that finished 7-1, losing only to eventual champion Australia, and won the 2003 Global Games in Dallas with a 5-0 record
- Selected to the 18-Under USA Albert Schweitzer Team after his senior season for a tournament held in Germany.
